All of us tend to work to deadlines and Christmas easily tops the poll when it comes to getting things done. Let’s face it, if, on the morning of the big day, the presents are not wrapped and the turkey is still running freely, we will have tough questions to answer.
In the property business, Christmas, like other holidays, is a date in the calendar and not a deadline. Others may be in slow down or shut down mode as the party season takes hold, but not here. There is a misperception that autumn and winter are when we ‘hibernate’ in readiness for the spring.
The reality couldn’t be more different. The pressure to complete before Christmas ‘deadline’ or the end of the year begins to build about now. Families are understandably keen to enjoy the festive season in their new home and so, there is added pressure to dot ‘i’s and cross ‘t’s and finalise the necessary paperwork before the Christmas tree is erected.
In our five offices, there is no lull or let-up. The same is true for what is regarded as the quieter summer period. However, in what passed for summer 2015, Templeton Robinson achieved sales that were up 16% on the corresponding period last year. Viewings for the first nine months of the year totalled 14,862.
Looking ahead and contrary to popular belief, the market kicks off in the new year with a bang; those that have been waiting to either buy or sell over the festive period are anxious to get the ball rolling early January and those that delay or hold back can quite often miss the initial enthusiasm of a new year.
Times have changed and the old myths do not necessarily hold true in today’s fast moving world. Discuss your moving plans with us; we have five strategically located offices ready and willing to help, whatever the season.
